  • Why the name Nasi Briyani? Is this site about Briyani?
No, the site isn't about Briyani. Nasi Briyani is a local favorite dish and plays a starring role in muslim weddings. A Singaporean icon relating to muslims in Singapore. Something like that.. you get the idea. Biryani is derived from the Persian word "Birian". In Farsi, Birian means "Fried before Cooking". Briyani is called 'Nasi Briyani' in Singapore. 'Nasi' means rice in Malay, and this tells you that it has been influenced and adopted by the Malays as well, so much so that it is a traditional main dish for Malay weddings and other auspicious occasions.
