Im not sure how many people is going.. if i were to suggest a cafe im afraid there won't be enough space for many.. so must pre-book or something.. maybe after knowing each other we can have an activity like games or what.. By the way Sultana, where r u from?

Well, if the participant are big, maybe we can hold in a function room of any community centre or in a hotel.

1) Should have an activity to break the ice and get together.
2) Engage a event organiser to plan for entertainment
3)Engage a caterer for light refreshment
4)Invite a speaker for a motivational speech
5) Sing a long karaoke together

We should minimise the activity for the first gathering as when we already know each other well, then we organise more interesting activity ..

I'm from Singapore but i'm living in Melbourne. Just as a brainstorm idea, wht cafe did u have in mind. From there we can have a few option on how many ppl can be accommodated to any venue that we come up with.

Yes, definitely need more input to plan this event. But you guys are doing just that, giving input.

Point noted abt minimizing activity. What if we can create an activity which allow members to get to know one another?

@ Ifah...u seemed to have quite a bit of experience in these kinda gathering ;) i like point 5. Sing a long karaoke together.

It would sound quite costly to engage these organizers and caterer.

Would any of you would like to take charge of getting sponsors??

If we can get the venue , food and entertainment sponsored that will save alot of cost on others.

Nb lounge could give advertising to them in exchange for sponsorship.

also i can get my brother's band to play some song. But first have to check wht kinda songs they play. Don;t wanna be too hard core might be offensive to some of the members here who don;t listen to music.

As we have yet to get to know each other,I think we shldn't meet at the Orphanage yet cos our objective is to familiarised with each other.Maybe on our other gatherings then we can think of that (for charity)

Yup. Cafe is good too. Thats exactly what I had in mind :). I was thinking of The Mind Cafe. http://themindcafe.com.sg It is cafe at the same time a place for people to play games. It is interactive and we can get to know one another at the same time. But they say they are not halal certified establishment yet. They are going to get one. They do not serve pork, alcohol, liquor. But I am not sure if this is acceptable or not. I am more assured if they are already a halal certified established. Then again the programme called Suria Segar at Suria Channel have promoted this cafe. What do you guys think?
Do you guys know of any cafe with games that is already halal certified establishment?

I've been to Pitstop cafe & Settlers.. I must say Settlers Cafe is better as the place is bigger, but u have to make reservation though as they're always crowded. And also, if many of us will be attending, it will be kinda difficult to sit and play games as we have to split our group to different tables. Then, we won't be able to interact to one another. Hmm.. Meanwhile, lets think for another venue..

Do give more input in this discussion. Keep in mind that there may be different range of ages who might be interested in this 1st outing. We would love to have an outing which is fun for everyone no matter what age you are. I am having a mental block, I can't come up with any interesting activities. Please hep. Thanks :)

iii) Sports arena or ground in a school / college

Activities:

i) Business / sports quiz for adults
ii) Islamic quiz for children
iii) Children's games like musical chairs, football, cricket etc
iv) Introductions with two minute speeches on any topic

Sponsors:

i) Halal food companies
ii) Book suppliers
iii) Ethnic fashion designers/ sellers
iv) Computer accessories
v) New Halal eateries can launch their products/ announce launching new locations, branches

Just some suggestions

1)Sofra Turkish Cafe @ Beach Road, specializing in Arab food (i have the discount card)

2)Ayam Penyet House also @ Beach road.

Why Beach Road????? Well, the reason being after eating we can walk to esplanade, chill.

As for the bills, we can take the total and divide by the number of people....

hi guys.. hmm that's a great idea.. but im sure that needs alot of work to be done and will take a longer duration. why not we organize something simple first, as it will be the first time all of us get to know each other.. and if the first gathering work out well, we can always organize another one with much bigger plans and activities.. it would be good if NB can come out with a polling page, gather votes and confirm attendance.. from there i reckon will be easier to settle with a place and activities. just my two cents =)
