Q. Refusal to use matchmaking portals - what to do?

I have been asked by many Muslim brothers and sisters to find them a partner. despite telling them to use the match making portals, they have not done so as they find this too overwhelming. How can I help these people ?

Salaam,

Hmm...good question, but then again which is more permissible in the sight of Islam, formal match-making or dating hmm :) ? Conflicting between the emotional feelings of self-determination and yet at another is desperation could sometimes can be difficult when these two are put together to resolve an issue.

The only way is to ascertain them with the words, "you need to sort out your priorities...brother/sister!". It's simply not an issue of "face", but rather the importance of marriage and family upbringing. As I am not married yet myself <sigh>, but certainly match-making is not a negative thing, if not the govt would not have promoted it in the first place.

Matchmaking?

I know some people still do such as their families still believe in such ways to boost familial ties and position.

One person who can help them is themselves...

As they are the one that is finding the other half... Nobody would know what their preference would be or their pet peeves would be...

One man's meat is another man's poison...

Personals website, yes can do but still have to correspond and feel whether they hit off thru that and follow up with a meeting.

Finding a partner thru their hobbies would be another.

Now with technology being so widespread and more people being so connected, but also more people being more dishonest behind the net... Hmm...

Really it's up to them, yes we can initiate the spark, but it's up to them to burst into flames (as in the connection) or just no flames at all...
