Is there a Skype phone in Singapore?
I am in Australia and have a skype phone here. I would like to purchase one for my parents so that they can easily call me anywhere anytime to Australia without having to pay international charges.
Can anyone tell me if there is one over there and which carrier do they have to be with. (ie singtel or starhub..)
Thanks.
so far there is no...there is also no CDMA support in Singapore.

oh not even a skype mobile phone? i found this by NETGEAR
http://netgear.com.sg/Products...
it's a skype voip phone. it can be connected to a landline or internet. so that's good for my parents. this company has its phones imported to singapore. however i can't find anything online on where to buy it and how much in singapore.
Masha-Allah, I didn't know. I asked my friend and they said no, so I thought they are right. I guess I am referring about the Skype phones offered by Singtel or major service providers. By the way, is the phone just a Wifi phone or dual GSM+Skype capability?
But so far, I do not see the hype of Skype + phone availability among users generally in Singapore, even though I came from the IT line . If it does, Singapore would be first to tackle and promote the market.
But in Singapore, the wireless hotspots are limited to main areas like central 'busy' spots in towns and central or libraries. Furthermore, the free access is around 512kbps, which is depended on area and traffic (mostly slow). Of course you can subscribed for a better one like 1 Mbps +. I only know about the brodband mobile on data offered by Singtel and similarly by M1, which I guess is unrelated to your question as it only deals with laptops and USB modem for a wireless access at any place and any time.
You can get them from Sim Lim Square. It is not easy to get it online but you can try ebay Singapore. I have came across a few people selling it, not long ago.

Salaam Z and Fariz,
Thanks for tht reply. i did go to ebay and found one dealer which is selling a voip phone with skype. This phone however needed to be connected to a pc since it's VOIP, duh.. :) I'm unsure what kinda internet connection my parents are using.
1) Do you know if using VOIP requires a certain carrier in singapore?
I'm using a VOIP phone here with 'naked ADSL' which has VOIP services. it saves us heaps of money on phoen bills.
2) Anyways, i was wondring if any of u techies out there might be able to tell me if i buy a skype mobile phone here, will i be able to get a singapore sim and use it?
link to the phone here: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/a.../
3)or the other option is to buy a smart mobile phone and download skype application as seen here.
link: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/d.../
4) what's the best option do u think? 1-3 ?
Thanks again in advance.
1. VOIP in Singapore do not require any particular carrier.
2. The 3skypephone is not supported in Singapore.
3. If you are getting a smartphone, make sure to get the one that is supported. My LG KS20 do not support voice call, only chat.
4. If you want to use smartphone, you will need wireless internet connection or mobile broadband (about $20 per month at least). You can use this anywhere.
Otherwise you can get the PC-less Skype phone that can support both normal landline and skype voip. (Netgear, Phillips etc - about $300 to $400). You can only use this one at home, with broadband from any carrier.
Hope this is helpful.
Thank alot z!...
That clarifies alot of my question. :D
hey you can find doro wifi sip mobiles.
its cheap you can configure any voip on it.
so you can find good voip providers cheaper than skype.
