Burasak Recipe

Does anyone has a good burasak recipe? This is a very famous bugis rice dish which is normally prepared during the Hari Raya celebrations.

hi paulchen,

i did some searching and asked a few friends, i think what you're after is the ketupat, or lepat.. of which there are a few types. Ketupat is also referred to as "burasa" or "burasak".

I found the following links to recipes, the first one has pictures:

* http://fairy.mahdzan.com/story...
* http://www.tourismpenang.gov.m...
* http://www.asianonlinerecipes....

I also found a photo that someone put up:

hope thats what you were after :)

during my searches, i also saw your question that you had asked on yahoo answers ;)

Think the main diffrence with burasak and lepat is that one uses fragrant rice(beras wangi) and the other uses glutanious rice (beras pulut)

Hi achi, splus and sultana,

Thanks a lot for all your efforts which are much appreciated. It is no problem for me if the recipe is in malay. Have you all ever eaten it before? I have eaten them once when I was young but now, if you asked me, I can't remember. I would very much like to try to make it to eat with some serunding and sambal goreng.

I have no idea what Burasak is unfortunately. i've also asked around and no one seemed to know what it can be.

We are Singaporeans anyway..don't think we have that in our dish. its probably malaysian and indonesian who eats them. at least that is what i found out while trying to find the recipie. Also i notice your name coming up for the search. ;)

seems like you've been after this recipe for a long time.
By the way..was any of the links close to what you are after?

Hi sultana,

I think almost all the links are referring to the same thing. I guess one would need beras wangi when making burasak. I have been checking among my relatives but unfortunaltely, all my older relatives who have the knowledge on how to make the original burasak have passed away. I belong to the younger bugis generation and I would like to refresh this old customs of ours. I guess I have to keep looking for the original burasak recipe. I hope in future, a fellow bugis will come across this question and might be able to give more information.
