maybe for show off or maybe to share the happy moments wif family n friends...to me i have only one daughter n to announce her marriage to family n friends...well i can only think doing the wedding n inviting everyone under one roof. Budget well it depend on individual. Mas kahwin n hantaran...depends on the couple...truly as parents... we leave it to the couple to decide as long as there's no debt. for the wedding expenses my husband did the saving himself. Our main concern is that we have a lovely day on that day insyaallah where friends n family members mingle. its going to be a one day event only. the couple is going to mingle with guest. no kompang, no going to girl o boy side but both families will be there to introduce each other to our friends n family members. to show off...i dont noe but truly from the heart... its a day i wish to remember for giving away my daughter n have well wishers from everyone for the couple. expensive YES if u want to do grand wedding grand decor grand food and grand etc...wif you inviting everyone even you get to noe them for a few mths...to me it depend on the family...for your info other religion cost of wedding either the same o may cost more...

It is mostly to show off that the family can afford to have a grand wedding, I think. I know for sure that my parents would want to invite almost everyone they know to my wedding.

Also, weddings are supposedly a once-in-a-lifetime event, so why not splurge on it?

Eventhough I personally feel that you shouldn't spend too much on weddings and use the money wisely to start your new married life.

cos they believe that marriage is once in a lifetime thing therefore they want to make as Grand-est as possible..but in Islamic teaching, it is not advisable to spend a lot on the wedding...just be affordable... ;)
