Salaam, I know that Muslims have differing views in regards to female circumcision, but I would like to know from the Singaporean Muslims on their opinion/remark on this topic. And yes, there are many websites have provided their stance on this, but I would like the views personally from the Muslim people in general.

All these while I thought that Female Circumcision is Wajib/compulsory however few years back i read an article that one of the prominent Muslim leader here mentioned that its not compulsory and he did not do so to his daughter. Upon reading that, if its not compulsory most probably parents who has done that for their daughters is just mainly following traditions.
I personally think that Female Circumcision should be done 1) for hygenic reason 2) it has always been done for so long.

Thank you for your reply. Female circumcision was practised for the reasons stated in yor post was in fact the common reasons for it.
In fact,to be sure, Quran never speaks on circumcision itself (you can confirm it yourself). However, the hadith provides us related towards circumsized, including two (but weak hadith) that talks about female circumcision ( I can't remember the website , please forgive me if I'm wrong). There are plenty of websites that discusses the subject of circumcision, please verify and if I'm wrong, please do correct me so that to prevent misinterpretation or human error.
There's nothing wrong in fact in, since as Muslims we circumcised for hygine and convenience for prayers. But as Muslims too, we have to differentiate between the Al-Quran, the hadith and sunnah, and thoughts of scholars of Islam. This is important, so that Muslims do not fall into the hands of humans who misintrepret or exagerately misuse the teachings from Islam to benefit their ideology and methodology of their belief and causes.
