Why is the society so focused on getting a job?

there are millions of illiterate people in the world that i really believe education is vital.
as for a job, i don't know what you mean - in a western context or 'eastern'....
in the west i suppose an increasingly materialistic lifestyle would contend with some sort of societal expectation to have a large bank balance..
honestly it really isn't that different in 'the east'.. it's actually more aggressive and superficial.

i.e An education does not guarantee anyone a job.
