hi tingi
you need to understand that singapore is a modern country. most parents here are working and the maid is at home to supervise their children. and also, most parents will not have a lot of childern, which means less sibling. as one of their sibling gone to school, the other will be siting at home, after finishes the homework. they do not have the proper guide as not being supervise( maid doing household chores) . as the result, they will be going unwanted webs.
the parents can only give basic courtesy, maybe not. that is why you are finding more people is more rude.
maybe they mixed with the wrong company, as they are alone.
as to answer your question, they may be going out with friends until late night, go unwanted websand the things you listed above. some of them may even make tatoos or sex. that is why you see why there is an increase in the divorce rate.(dunno how to solve problems ).
they maybe too stress up with the work that is given. for example, the teacher will give you 3 things to be done. the rest may give 1 or 2 respectively, or even none. they cannot cope up eith their work . as for me, i have a time to go surfing the net, to do me homework, clean my room, pack my bag etc. this involves time management.

Hi, I totally agree with you. You just got to remember that everyone has a choice isnt it? How many people you know don't smoke or don't drink? I bet it is a lot isnt it? Now, I find that I agree with you that the youths are affected it is just that know your limits.

Ask you, do you read magazines? Watch MTV maybe have friends who drink? So, it is again...choices.

It's obviously a huge problem that we face a society. Firstly, social norms and the meritocracy system dictates us to slug it out to reap the benefits in life. I am pro meritocracy but what it tends to do is make us forget the religious aspect of our lives. The question now is are we willing to forgo our religious obligations for the sake of worldly pleasures.

And what the media does is to package sins into worldly pleasures. It's tough times for the youths today.

Returning to the Quran is the best way out of this mess. Not just reading it, but actually to understand it and to practise it. It's a mu'jizat and still our best hope yet.

It's easy in words but we need to act as an ummah. To create a platform as influential as the current media and create that thirst and interest in Al-Quran and its content.

It is more important that we accept the fact that things are changing & learn how to change with it so as to remian relevant. We cannot fight it for it will leave us behind forever.

more than what's mentioned above, the absence of Islamic valuable teachings in the muslim society.
