Q. Praying In Government Schools

Salam to All,

I would just like to ask are children allowed to perform their solat in their school premise. Some schools actually ends at about 8 pm with CCA. What happens to their solat?

I'm not sure about doing the solat in school.I think you should call up the school pricipal and request for it. Actually if there are many parents that are concern about it,then the principal can try to find a room for them to perform their solat.
I hope that this suggestion helps.

My children perform their zohor solat in their classroom sometimes, when they have extra classes and CCAs.

So far they have no problems with the school authority.

It is easier to do if they can find like minded friends and do the solat together.

Well let's be understanding in this matter and don't be too demanding also.

What we need to teach our kids is also to learn that the solat prayers can be done in a clean place with or with out a room.

Imagine if you are given a room for the Muslims, the other races and religions will also demand of it. So imagine having the Buddha, Hindu and Mariam statues all over the place. It wont look like a school right?

My advise is to ask yes. If cannot get don't complain, teach the kids to find a clean spot, place some papers or cloth there and do their prayers.

Also teach them about tolerance.

Wa'salam,
Fadzuli

Well, i couldnt agree more with Fadzuli..This reminds me of my secondary school days..
Another suggestion is that they can approach any Muslim teacher especially bahasa melayu teachers as religion plays an important part in our malay culture..Im pretty sure, they can help us out should anything happen...

Salams.

All the while i’ve been schooling in a govt school. From Opera Estate Primary School to Victoria School and then to Tampines Junior College, i’ve always been able to find a ‘praying corner’. Alhamdulillah my solat are rarely missed irregardless of how late sch ended for me back then.

Normally, you can try asking the malay teachers or the muslim cleaners of the school if there is any designated area that they have assigned for prayer. If not then i guess you would just have to find a nice cosy corner to perform Salat. It is not that difficult actually. All you need is the kiblat and a mat and a small quiet corner. I remember there were times when i prayed in my CCA store room and that would be sufficient.

Hopefully this would be of benefit to you, InsyaAllah.

Salams

The only solution to this problem is that those children also are not ready to pray and their parent must not allow this for them, because what they are doing before they left home will dettarmine what will happen when they get to some place else to live their life. And more so every body knowns that inevery government school they normally close by 2:00pm before they will start lesson so they can even use that oppurtunity to pray before they will start lesson.

hmm..i would rather my kids to pray on time. Request for 15 mins to solat will not hurt anyone or neither is their activities in schools. All the parents have to do is to inform the teachers ic who r ic of that cca or that activity to allow his/her kids to pray. I believe there is no problem with that as i will also request that when my kids go to primary schools and secondary schools.

I have muslim friends whose children never missed a prayer in school.

I suppose it is whether we want to do it oor not. As parents we have our obligations to teach our kids to 2nd pillar of islam.

We just need to put in efforts. The rest leave it to ALLAH (swt)
