Assalamualaikum..
I want to ask, is it haram for Muslim girls to enter dikir barat?
Dikir Barat is kind of a musical form which involves singing in a group.(singing loudly)
I heard that for Muslim women, our voice is one of our aurat and therefore we have to always keep our voices down. so in this case, does it mean that Muslim girls shouldnt have enter dikir barat? because it involves loud singing...?
Sometimes I wonder where did you get this ideas?
Even in Nasyids, there are moments that the singer needs to raise her voice. I don't see a difference with Dikir Barat in this case because its still a form of singing.
And since when did our voices become our Aurat?
So back to my question. Where did you get this ideas?

Many of the recent generations may look this as it is ok as the ladies would do dakwah through nasyeed.
Dikir barat, to some extend will need the participants to do some actions while sitting or sometimes stand during the singing.
Bare in mind that, covering the aurat perfectly but enchants her voice when interacting with man such as singing and nasheed is actually not suitable (doesn't mean cannot) for a woman to do da'wah via nasheed or dikir barat, because the moment a woman gets on stage with her glamorous attire to perform nasheed, thousand of men's eyes get focused on her. We do not know where exactly the men are looking. Her enchanting voice also melts the heart of the listner and may arouse desires of some men although the woman only sings words praising God.

Bro and sisters, many of our Islamic understanding and teaching is clouded by our cultural practices.
This is a good question to point out.
There are again differences of opinion in our Islamic Ummah ( different sects, and school of thought) about women's voice being an awrah.
Generally 2 opinions:
1) Yes the women's voice is part of her awrah hence not to use it to non muhrim unless in absolute necessity.
2) No women's voice is not part of her awrah. That is, if her voice is not in a musical tone, soft and of incitement during speech.
For more details and understanding on why there are these two opinions please read these links:

I'm just giving 3 links. If you google, you can find more evidence.
My stand would be not to use our voice for Singing or public quran recitation if non-muhrim is there. But i would speak as per normal to anyone. It makes life alot more simpler.
W'salaam
Thanks people for the opinions. Appreciated. :)
And by the way, I got all these thinkings because I myself involve in dikir barat. Ok maybe last time, I didnt think of all this. But then, as I think back, normally when we did performances, we would wear makeups, all the hairdos..also practising to make our voices louder... (like what trefoil said, thousand of men's eyes will get focused on us and our enchanting voice also might melts the heart of the listener and may arouse desires of some men) so I felt that its like not suitable for a woman to do like that. its like a whole package when you involve in this dikir barat, its not only singing but also all the makeups etc.
Anyway, I'm just trying to clear this matter because I was thinking to stop involving in this. Thanks people once again, very useful resources.:)
So Nasyids by women are also haram I supposed ? Or is it makruh ? But it is widely practised in this part of the world, even on religious occasions.
