Modern scholars have made music seemed Halal.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

“Among my ummah there will certainly be people who permit zinaa, silk, alcohol and musical instruments…” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari ta’leeqan, no. 5590; narrated as mawsool by al-Tabaraani and al-Bayhaqi. See al-Silsilah al-Saheehah by al-Albaani, 91). Found in Bukhari.

Im suprised to see many scholars who permits music...but after careful research, it is clear to me that it is Haram. Even the 4 school of thoughts says that it is Halam.

please read this very elorabrate answer on islam Q n A on this.

The amount of music i used to listen to was shocking, but after reading this, i stopped altogether and deleted them. now i'm faced with the challenge of watching news channel with music in the background. And sometimes you find islamic DVDs with music...hrmm dono how to deal with those.

W'salaam.

The thing is i know that it is ok for playing musical insruments .

Sultana had showed to us an authentic hadith, which is true. However, upon consulting an ustaz, he clarified that it is ok to play music ( like in maulids etc.. ) .

Do notice too that there is singing involved in the maulids. So are they like bid'ah? Nope, it isn't bidah...

But there is still this unanswered question - Why did the prophet made music illegal?

Music is not illegal as long as you don't be distracted by the music . This means that let say if i am listening to a music and then there is the iqamah, it is then haram ( forbiddened ) for me to listen the music as it distracts our prayers.
