On a personal level, I think that wearing a baju kurung or kebaya does not only restrict to Hari Raya. In fact most women especially those that are of middle age prefers to wear most often even when they go to the market. Though I do heard of some youths that seems to be embarrased to wear them when they go to places like Orchard Road because they think it is not trendy and hip. I feel that these clothes are in fact just traditional clothes and should not be interconnected with our religion, Islam. This is because if you travel to Middle East for example, they do not wear our traditonal clothes. In fact, they have their own which is the abayah. Also, our traditional clothes are deemed to look very lady like and hence people tends to wear them to special occasions only. As for me, I like to wear them not only during special occasions like attending a wedding, visiting purposes, going to the mosque or when someone just passed away. I like to wear my traditional clothes most often when I travel because I am proud of it. Also, these clothes are so much easier for me to move around without worrying whether I walk big steps or not. (You know what I mean?)
