Hmm..this trial always true for this world. Allah has always made a test for each of us in this world, to distinct ourselves from those with faith, and those with not.

Truly, it's already hard for you. But the choice is yours ultimately, since I do not really know the full condition of your state. In Islam, haram is haram, and no doubt about it that we should argue if we're God-fearing . In fact, as a muslim there is so many haram things we end up with in society, like interest (usury), zina in these days. So be not of those who are in the state of loss in the Last Day

i feel that it is a tricky question. not sure how to answer, considering myself also has a family.

In my humble opinion, i feel that as muslims we should always look into ourselves and do self reflection that what we have done to end up in the situation (level of difficulty).

We got to question ourselves, the following qs.

1) did we do our five prayers daily?
2) do we thank Allah for all things that he has bestowed upon us?
3) do we fast?
4) do we contribute zakat?
5) did we try to save for hajj?
6) did we live up to true muslims?

Before we put blame on ALLAH(swt), question ourselves 1st.

Ah Xuan's opinion is correct. However, more needs to be done in addressing this problem among the Muslims.

I do not know why, especially, some Muslims are selective in the use of usury (interest). I remember my mum saying that you cant use interests to consume foods, but you can spend it on something else? I mean, since when does the term usury is divided into consumption and consumables? Does Haram means Haram and Halal means Halal in Islam or are we just "currying our own flavour" in Islam

In Singapore, I'm a bit worried about the state of Muslim youths and other age groups as there is little communication on Islamic ijtihad. Consideration on today's issue seems bleak, as most scholars I feel, have closed this matter between the learned and the layman people. With the modern age of rational and reasoning attitudes among the newer generation, I feel that many Muslims chose to throw their Muslims identity 'over their backs' , as the pulling of Islamic teachings seems 'outdated'; not in the fundamentals and concept, but it's presentation and charismatic attention to the people.

Furthermore, the main target of today's media material seems to feature the 'plight' of Muslims women. Owing to the fact that the voice of Muslim women are the least responsive in Islam community; some pro-anti Islamic community took advantage of producing books, (I mean plenty ; just take a look at Amazon ) on selective stories of women tortured as a Muslim. Some were written by ex-Muslim, which fuels up the anti-Muslim sentiment. I could name a few, reading some myself.

So I do hope that the Muslim community could start showering all these issues together of else, well mosques becomes museums and Muslims becomes statues...That's scary.

salem all

there is an increasing need for methologies for dawah cos the conversion to islam is going fast in west. I wonder what happened to the local muslims...

However, it is good to c MUIS is investing in islamic education for the young (finally they realised that islam is "dying" in singapore). Just check out the tarawih prayers in mosques, 3/4 of them are middle aged and above. WHere are all the young ones?

We need EDUCATION to educate the muslim youths..without knowledge, they wont be convinced but 1st of all, they got to believe in one GOD (ALLAH).

Anyhow, its up to ALLAH to open their eyes of their heart.

can u imagine how many of muslims dont fast these days?

Saleem,

Do not be suprised, Ah Xuan. That's part and parcel of living in today's society. Even other religions have issue; Some Buddhist claiming to me they can eat beef? Some Christians coming to me saying they can do anything (right or wrong) since they already believe in Jesus; hence heaven (jannah) is promised for them assuredly. I'm hearing funny stuff from even Muslim; for example they can play Toto/4D; as long they do not literally consume the money if they won (means eating). The same theology goes for interest.

However, it's important to note that tarawih is done once during our prophet's (pbuh) time (see the hadith). It's Khalifah Omar (r.a.,) who establish it as compulsory among Muslims. Whether Muslims commit tarawih or not, does not fault the Muslims as it is never endorse by prophet Muhammad (pbuh) or even the Quran. What's important is the significance of observing the month of fasting, such as abstaining food, water and of course, sins.

As far as education is concerned, they are, but compared with secular education, is too inferior. I remember how our faithful brother and sisters in the western world are complaining of our Islamic education being lack of scholarly research, methodology, and modern approach to analyze Islam. Muslims confused this as demeaning or changing Islam, which is sadly misinterpreted. They wanted a presentation of Islam suitable for non- Muslims to understand and accept and follow; this has nothing about compromising Muslim beliefs but rather to strengthen . They are some Muslims who to tried to unlawfully change Islam wholesale, though it's rather unsuccessfully so far.

Faith is still strong in Islam, and I believe the strength now comes in fact, from non-Muslims countries like US,Canada and Europe. Da'wah is very active there, moreover people there study/analyze Islam, unlike born Muslims probably in Singapore, Malaysia and other Muslim countries. Debates/ Communications are active between Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, Judaism etc..so it's amazing why how Islam evolves strongly there, despite of the many shortcomings they have. Muslims here, sadly, are like going "backwards". Common Muslims are like, indirectly speaking, can't tell the difference between Islamic historical tradition, Koranic laws and interpretation, non-Islamic culture assimilation, and fatwa. In fact, some think it's all the same (??) under the umbrella religion of one Islam, which is of course, rubbish.

Hi Ron,

Everybody know the issue of money tears relationships apart no matter how thick it is.

Some people still say blood is thicker than water, it is because they have yet to see family going at each others throat because of money.

One thing bro, your friend even though he won at TOTO, he is the owner of the money. He is extending his hand out to you in good will, that you will overcome this period of hardship. And in total trust in your integrity and credibility, to handle that money well, to settle whatsoever and get out of that situation. Also trusting you to return the money when you have the means to.

However, we must also consider this, his real intention of offering you his help? Any conditions?

This does not come by easily, as trusting is a difficult thing as we all know. Sometimes we trust in people, people thrust you (in the back).
