This question should be directed at Mius.

I think it is important to state what you actually do at the restaurant.

Recently Yaacob Ibrahim announced that Muslims can work at the IR, in areas not involving gambling, such as the hotels, even though the hotels serve alcohol.

Salaam,

Personally, i think in F&B line, its not easy to land a job in Halal restaurant as there are not many of them around compare to the rest of the non-halal eateries.
As long as you are not consuming the non-halal product, it should be ok. Because in your heart you know you are doing this job to earn an honest living and support your family.

Abit late in answering this question but i'll be doubtful about working in places that serves alcohol and pork. Allah has clearly curse those thing. Based on the generel concensus of scholars, it is advisable for you to leave this job and find a proper halal means.

You are allowed to work there only if you find it extremely difficult to find a lawful way of earning a living. Try to keep in mind that you should leave this job the moment you find a more suitable one.

Things which is doubtful is better to stay away. Please refer to these fatwas

1) working in a restraunt which server haram food and drinks: http://www.islamonline.net/ser...

2) Working in a Place that Sells Pig Meat

"You would undoubtedly be concerned about losing livelihood. Allah has promised us in the Qur’an that He would certainly provide for us should we remain conscious of Him and strive earnestly to obtain a Halal source of income. You are, therefore, best advised to exercise your imagination to find Halal options; when Allah forbids something in Islam, He has made sure to provide us with substitutes that are Halal.

Allah says in the Qur’an, “And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, He maketh his course easy for him.” (At-Talaq: 4)

It is also worth mentioning that there is virtually no blessing in earnings that are purely Haram. A penny of Halal is better than a million dollars earned through Haram. One of the conditions for acceptance of Prayer in Islam is to earn a living through purely Halal sources.

Therefore, you are best advised to seek to find a source of livelihood that is purely Halal; if you have the will and sincere intention and strive for it, Allah will surely help.” (Quoted, with slight modifications, from: www.islam.ca) "

I sincerely hope you will think about finding other alternatives as i know you wouldn't feel settled knowing that you are involve in something Haram. May Allah open up other opoturnaties for you.

W'salaam
