Q. Working in restaurant serving pork?

Salaam,

I would like to refer back to Appolle qns about her feeling that its a sin to work in non-Muslim restaurant.

My reply to her is that as long as you are not consuming the product and just earning an honest living it should be ok.

Now my qns is, working in a non halal and non-Muslim restaurant - a lot of people is doing so. But what about people who is working for a Muslim boss but the restaurant is non-halal and infact serving pork.
Isn't that wrong??

The boss is a muslim convert with a muslim wife but they are operating a non-halal food business. How can they do that?

w'salaam

please refer to my answer in working in a non-muslim restaurant: http://www.nasibriyanilounge.c...

Generally from the scholars, it's not allowed to work in those places unless your livelyhood depends on it. Even so you are required to get another halal job asap. Your earning are not 100% Halal. earning a halal living is one of the most important things as you are using this money for your family in every single way. Usually money from these kinda earning have little blessing. :(

as for your question

Quote
------------------------------------
Selling pork is haraam whether it is sold to a Muslim or to a kaafir. The evidence for that is as follows:

1 – Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Say (O Muhammad): I find not in that which has been revealed to me anything forbidden to be eaten by one who wishes to eat it, unless it be Maytah (a dead animal) or blood poured forth (by slaughtering or the like), or the flesh of salcohol (pork); for that surely, is impure or impious (unlawful) meat (of an animal) which is slaughtered as a sacrifice for others than Allaah (or has been slaughtered for idols, or on which Allaah's Name has not been mentioned while slaughtering”

[al-An'aam 6:145]

And the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) taught us an important principle when he said: “When Allaah forbids a thing, He (also) forbids its price.” Narrated by Abu Dawood, 3488; classed as saheeh by Shaykh al-Albaani in Ghaayat al-Maraam, 318.

Running a non-halal food business is clearly haram,

How can he do that ? Well , obviously he does not have a full grasp of the teachings of Islam.

Some Muslim converts, cannot let go of their previous cultures where materials well being is of paramount importance.

Somebody close to him needs to advice and remind him .

Maybe you can contact MUIS or Darul Arqam , to send somebody who can advise him.

If he is using his Muslim name for the business , it should not be allowed to continue, because it can mislead other Muslims to patronize his stall.

I do not have a say on anything on this, as there is little evidence on this matter, on the matter on the person's view and reasons. But we can share this matter by some verses, one of which is once quoted by Ahmed Deedat...

"Say: If it be that your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your mates, or your kindred; the wealth that ye have gained; the commerce in which ye fear a decline: or the dwellings in which ye delight - are dearer to you than Allah, or His Messenger, or the striving in His cause;- then wait until Allah brings about His decision: and Allah guides not the rebellious."

Al-Qur'an, 009.024 (At-Tawba [Repentance, Dispensation]) (Yusuf Ali translation)

Let us be careful of what we wished our lives to be, sometimes we need to think and seek help from others for a cause or solution. Transgression and ignorance is not something a religion would find acceptable.

I cant associate muslims with PORK! Its just opening a pub serving alcohol oh yah the boss is a muslim!

There is sooooo many jobs available why must choose the job that associates with haram stuff??

I just find it extremely unacceptable to give excuses :" oh its part of my job to chop pork and i dont eat wah!"

Maybe next time we can also sell alcohol and said" i dont drink wah! but I am giving the acoholic drinks to others (the disbelievers), let them sinned more?".

ISLAM IS FOR ALL MANKIND SO AS THE COMMANDS IN THE KORAN.

Asker's comment:

Salaam,

They are not using his Muslim name to operate the business but there has been news of their business in the papers and internet. From what i've read, their business are doing well thus papers are potraying them in it. You can find a few of their branches in Heartland coffee shop.

They even put up a signboard saying that they are not Halal yet some Muslims still eat there ! i find this alarming, are we so open minded nowadays that we have totally forgotten about HALAL & HARAM ???

As-Salamu Allaykum, All,

I pray this finds all well with yourselves.

IT DOESNT just stop with food; I had a short contract with a large bank just after becoming a Revert. After the end of the contract, was offered a new Contract via the same bank with much better conditions, better style of work, better locale, & longer contract - THE NIGHT BEFORE Signing the new contract, I discovered it is Haram to 'deal in Usuary'!!! Working for an organisation whose focus is such, constitutes 'passively dealing in Usuary'!

I gnashed my teeth over that all night & half the following day before advising the Agency I had to turn it down! They were NOT impressed!!
I've not had work since.
IN HINDSIGHT I would make that same decision now, again, as there is no Halal alternative.
