Darul Arqam has a "Beginner's Course on Islam". It's located in the east, at Geylang.

Web details are here: http://www.darul-arqam.org.sg/...

Hope it will be meaningful for you Insyaallah.

Well, if one is a convert, there are many ways to learn of Islam. For me, I learn through this steps in general(i'm not a convert, but a Muslim re-discovering his faith).

1st) Learning the concept of oneness and unity of Allah s.w.t. I think this is the most essential before any others such as prayers, fasting etc.. As humans we have more questions to clarify about the concept of Allah (God Almighty) than of anything else or matters in the world. A person who understands the concept of God is much better than one who blindly a faith simply out of his/her "heritage of the religion of their forefathers" or "out of conveniece and emotional/wordly benefits"... :)

2nd) The obligations of Islam, its meaning, signifance and importance in spiritual and practise. I feel converts should take this imporrtantly one step at a time. Do not rush into every single integrals in prayers, alms giving or fast. Keep asking and clarifying any issues and doubts before going to the next part of Islam knowledge. Learning simple Arabic words and terms, and importantly the meaning, be part of learning. Arabic is NOT easy, but strangely important and in fact related to Western history :)

3rd) Learning the historical, social and cultural elements within Islamic society and development. This includes the history of Islam, the sciences of Quran, differences between culture and religious elements within Islamic society.

Tips on learning
--------------
To achieving this three, honestly, is not easy going path. Just like in other faiths or like even in academic discipline, we may need to learn from many teachers or sources to gain knowledge to clarify our doubts and questions about our beliefs and knowledge. People have different interpretation, understanding and views or approaches on each topic, so do not be confused or frustated :) So do not rush, over hypocritical and discriminating, self-centered or be arrogant (which hampers learning alot), rather be humble, patient and attentive.

Centers of learning
-----------------------------
Darul Arqam is one of the centres of learning in Singapore, CMLC(http://www.centreformuslim.com...) is another as well as Faithhub for converts. PERGAS offers an English introduction of Islam, though the registration ended recently. There is also an online learning such as Sunnipath (note it's leaning to sufism ) and onlineislamicuniversity.com( it's free for it's short courses...:) ). There are also websites like Youtubeislam.com, since it has very large videos on Islam including learning Arabic, and foundations of Islam and discussion topics in English. Kalamullah.com is another place for mp3 audios, video and ebooks.

Conclusion
---------------
If you have issues on getting any materials online or reference, do put in the post in Nasibriyanilounge.com. I'm sure we could help. Salaam.

Assalamualaikum Rayhana.

I just reverted to Islam and I will recommend heading to Darul Arqam, Singapore. The staff and peers are very helpful and friendly and they definitely bring me to better understanding of Islam prior to the conversion.

Lessons are taught in English. They have various courses, Just to name a few:

1. Beginners' Course on Islam
2. Solat Tutorials
3. Qur'an Reading
4. Understanding the Qur'an
5. Marriage Guidance Course

I hope the center will be of help to you.

wassalam wr. wb.
