Q. Any Muslimah hair salon to Bleach my hair?

Anyone knows of a Muslimah (muslim women) salon in the East where one could get one's hair bleached professionally -- not dyeing? Appreciate if someone could suggest a place. Tks

Are Muslims allowed to bleach their hair in the first place ?

wats the diff between bleaching and dyeing?

As far as i know, there is no permanent hair dye yet..usually fades off after 10 weeks at most..so it is permissible in islam..the issue of haram comes in when ur doing it with the intention of riya( show off ) or the substance has animal origin or any haram substance..or the hair dye harms you more than it can benefit u..

just sharing with Z :)

So I presumed, the hair bleaching or dyeing are done for cosmetic reasons, for the benefit of the husband or for fun, in case of unmarried women ?

Any other reasons ? Just wondering.

As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah...
This message is intended for "zuritz" and "naemah". I know its a late reply, but I only just came across and feel the need to clarify something. In Islam dying the hair is haraam. Why? Not for riya (showing off) as that is the point of "beautifying" yourself. Who would see you anyway? Only your husband and mahaarim. The reason it is haraam is because it coats your hair. This blocks the water from reaching the hair when you make wudu. However, dying one's hair with henna is halal. Why? Because it doesn't coat the hair, it is absorbed into the hair. Also, henna was used to dye the hair of the father of Abu Bakr (ra) as instructed by Muhammam (saws). Thirdly, in regards to bleaching the hair, this needs more research. As far as I know, it is halal. Why? Because it does not involve coating the hair either. Rather it actually strips a layer and the color off the hair. Naemah, I suggest being sure of your "fatwa" before you pass it. As it is a major sin "kabaa'ir" to discuss halal/haraam without knowledge... and I mean no offence sister. May Allaah guide us all and send His Salaah and Salaam upon the final Messenger Muhammad. and Allaah knows best. Salaam!

As-salaamu alaykum wa rahmatullah...
Alhamdulillah Allaah has given me the opportunity to correct my mistakes. I did further research (which I should have dont first) and found that apparently dying the hair is permissible. What I stated in regards to dye coating the hair and henna being absorbed into the hair is in regards to nail polish lol... In regards to dying the hair, the ulema say that in general it is permissable unless the Muslimah is dying it in a way that imitates the kuffar. Also, it is haraam to dye the hair black. And Allaah knows best. Salaam!

Assalamualaikum,

From what I know, there are three types of hair dyes. Instant dye, semi-permanent dye and permanent dye.

The Instant dye will coats hair but this dye will easily been removed by water. Usually only by one wash this dye will be removed and this should be not a problem for muslimin and muslimah.

The semi-permanent dye is the problem one. This dye also will coats your hair and block water to reach it and it is hard to be removed. This is the one that not permitable by our religion, because...you know, when you in junub, you need to take bath and apply water to all parts of your body.

The permanent dye has the same properties like henna which will absorbed into the hair structure. Should be not a problem.

Replying Zuritz question on Muslimah Salon for dying your hair, Johor Bahru now has hair salon for muslimah called Jazeerat El Rahah. You can try and ask them. This is their phone number 607-2359016.

Have a nice day. Wassalam

I usually go to JCPenny hair salon (mostly in the mall). Its hidden and also have all women hair stylist.

Sometimes one male hair dresser come in, but the ladies there know me and they let me know so I dont go those days. Service and prices are real good.

Hello... Replying to 'anitrak', I'd like to clarify that Vybe's is a unisex salon, however we do cater to muslimahs. We have, installed curtains, to a section of our salon specially for the use of our muslimah customers.
Vybe's is a muslim owned salon and have been in business since Oct 2003.
Yes we have chinese male stylists, but of course only a female assistant stylist or hairstylist will attend to any muslimah.
And we carry a few brands of hair products, whereby one of which is certified HALAL.

Replying to 'benyamin', hair colouring comes in various types.Permanent hair colours DO NOT coat the hair. Theoretically, d chemicals involved opens up the hair cuticle n reacts with the hair's natural colour pigment to change it.

We are located at Bedok central, Blk 210 #02-725. For further clarifications please do contact myself, Ina or my sister, Ana @ 68760141. Thank You
