What is Honeymoon?

Salam.

Well a honeymoon is basically a holiday taken by a couple who have recently married to celebrate their coming together as a couple. After the hustle of planning and having a wedding, the couple usually would like to take some time off to rest and to enjoy personal time with each other, and this is usually done through a honeymoon to a faraway place, where the newlyweds can enjoy time away from their families, and just be with each other. And some consider the wedding celebrations incomplete if they do not go for the honeymoon.

If we are talking about traditional weddings, the honeymoon is not actually a part of it. But due to modernisation and westernisation of cultures, there is a stronger shift to adopt such practices into our own weddings. So, while it is not a part of weddings before, we find that we tend to want to go for a honeymoon just to complete the whole experience of being newlyweds.

The simple answer to your question is no, it is not a must to go for honeymoons. But if you do want to go, bear in mind your living expenses to come as newlyweds, and to not go to places which are possibly too extravagant for you to support financially.

Another option is to spend the money wisely to go for Hajj or Umrah together, and as a couple fulfill the last requirement for Muslims. Better to go visit the Sacred Mosque anytime over Bahamas, if you ask me.

Agreed..though ironically, Hajj or umrah neither seem cheaper than other destinations at all ha ha. Anyway, I see some newly wed Muslim couples who do go umrah but hajj ?A bit far fetched, less I heard some people who do, like they made a they made together in such way or another .:)
