I moved from Singapore to Holland to join my partner.
Moving abroad aint easy at all, but it made mine easier because my partner was well to do. My transiition from moving from Singapore was easier.
I waited 2 years to get my PR status, and that includes being in Singapore for 3-6mths for the final step before getting a permit to enter holland. Of course your background is being checkd from left to right.
Being in holland, you need to master to the dutch language and intergrate into the society. But life is easier because almost everybody here speaks English fluently. You dont get so lost.
But emotionally is takes awhile to get adjusted, living behing you family and familar things. And living with a white person isnt a bed full of roses either. Its up and down.
Of course i was proud to introduce them my culture, my traditiona and my religion. And religion was the hardest part, with the world so called against muslim extremism, I have doctor their minds about the beauty of Islam and the moderate practise where I came from.
But to summarise, if you are not prepared for the rough ride , dont move overseas, you have to strong

Its a journey that I went through, and still going through it. For those who wants to move overseas, your motive must be right, is it to build a new family or simply to earn more money or to see the vast abunden beauty of what god has created for us to enjoy.
I left Singapore, quiting well paid paid job with MediaCorp. To join my partner in Holland, though I had thousand of reservations, but I was 24 and still young, and what is a few years wasted, I can still start my life all over again, even if it fails. Langauge was not a problem for me because almost everybody here speaks english, even the homeless, can you imagine, their command of English is flawless. I am still trying to get my dutch language right.
The worse fear is yet to come, I was afraid, that being muslim, will i be accepted. I shall not go into that, I manage to outcome all those fears.
But we Singaporean are generally spoilt and we have everything we had always wanted, but living overseas, thats not the case, things are different around here, like medical and how the use insurance to pay for medical fees and also social service here is quite strong unlike in Singapore, if you dont work for some reason, you have no money, unlike here, the goverment, on case to case basis assist their citizens, especially the old, sick and weak with housing and essentials, they receive up to 1000 euro in total package sometime, sometime more, bills can be paid with this and the surplus of 100-200 for them to spent on food. But like many countries in EU, many misuse this. I love being her, the life here is slow and not stressful, unlike singapore, we are constantly running for work etc etc.
But I miss home so much, during raya and especially Islamic days. You tend to appreciate things more when are here rather than when are in sg. Like culture, I take all efforts to do the whole works for Hari Raya. I miss being able to communicate in my mother tongue, I somehow lost touch.
I guess one thing is no different, I am still the minorty just like Singapore, the chinese took over Singapore, but here I am a minority by choice, unlike Singapore. And thats sad, Singapore belongs to the Malays and not to the Chinese!

That true..we are minority here by choice. oh..im not malay..abit outch to hear singapore belong to the Malays. I'm Indian. :D

Yea.. i think that is sad about Singapore..
I went back to Singapore a few months back and i was shock how much the country has change. Gone were the days where the malays, chinese , indian and all other races use to hang out together and understand each other's differences.

The Chinese at the moment are not the chinese local form singapore...they are mostly expats. well even the local chinese..they just look down on us and dont treat us proper..as if they own the country!!ARRR i hate them! :P (joking) only people who are shallow and ignorant. im just alarmed at the amount of expat there are over there!!

i tried to go back to Singapore to work there for a while after living in Australia for a few yrs after my studies. I missed my family and although i made many interesting friends, i left Oz land to be with my family.

Apart form people giving me a hard time bcoz i wear the hijab, (yea i know there's various debates abt the significant of hijab..but moving right along)the hours of working are just ridicules!!
my work mate work from morning till the next morning!
i was just messed up! and with everything else tht was going on around me..the minute i step out of the house..people are just sour, bitter...and stressed out. oh yea..of course we Singaporean know how to indulge our stress...going out to eat..n probably watching a movie. and for some going to the club. What kinda life is that!!?
I move back here after a while in Singapore. it wasn't worth my mental and physical health.

i just love the life i have in Australia..although some things are expensive..i think generally i dont have presure to be materialistic and just lived within my means. its relatively easy to live here without earning much.

moving away from my country was the best thing i've done for myself. i found who i am and made my life here. the environment here do not have a hold on how i think and wht i wanna do, unlike in Singapore. there's always some narrow mindedness and constrain present on wht is acceptable and what is not.

Well moving away is tough withine the few months...but i think if you are raise to be independent ( tks to my parents) then its should be a gradual adaptation after the culture shock :P

i dint know anyone when i moved here, just made friends gradually...n ofcourse the Islamic Society in my uni was very welcoming. it helps.

Ps: just wanna add tht Singapore govt do support family if they are not financially stable. they dont publise it tho. i think so tht people dont abuse it. question is how much money do they give each month to families. hrmm
