Salaam,

There is no conversion from civil certificate to "Islamic" marriage certificate if your husband converted to Islam after his marriage before conversion. Allah s.w.t forgives what is in the past if he has turned his heart to Islam and seek to perform the right as what Allah s.w.t laid down His revelations to mankind.

Hope this clarifies.

Hello cremebrulee,

You have to go through the Muslim nikah ceremony in order to get the Muslim marriage certificate. Like what Fariz said, there's no conversion from civil to muslim marriage cert. Both civil and muslim laws in regards to marriage are different. But what you can do is register at ROMM, get a Kadi and wali, your husband will have to pay the compulsory Mahr which at the current rate is $100 mininum, than you will get the Muslim certificate. Check out ROMM website for the muslim marriage process. It's a straight forward procedure.

I know someone in the similar situation as you. The couple lives overseases and in that country, civil marriage supercedes religious one, so since they still have many family members in Singapore and wish to be married the Muslim way here, they had to go through civil marriage overseas first before going through the Nikah in Singapore. So now they have both civil and muslim certs.

Hope this helps :)
