Q. Should we pull the plug ?

A brother is now in hospital bed. Doctors have declared him brain dead. The family is divided between pulling the plug of the life saving machine. Father and elder brother on one side and the mother and daughter on the other side. Both insisting on their ways and turning a deaf ear to the Ustad. What is your advise ?

what does the ustaz say then? it's a situation of panic, during which our decision making abilities will be affected.

an ustaz, who's a neutral party in this case, will definitely give sound advice based on the fundamentals and principles of Islam. perhaps he's knowledgeable on a certain hadith (out of the thousands of it) related and relevant to this matter.

on a personal point of view, i don't think the plug should be pulled. Let Allah SWT alone decides on a person's life. we do as much as we possibly can and tawakkal. Insyaallah

Assalamualaikum Bro,

As Healthcare worker, and being the third party it is wholly ultimately your family's decision.

Personally, from my own point of view. And based on medical knowledge, it's just the machine helping him to breath, and without it, he will cease to exist physically. Prolonging suffering is not the solution. I know and I understand and truly seen many deaths. Nobody wants to give up, who would? But also nobody wants to see him suffer...

It's a very difficult decision, which the whole family must pray together and decide.

If a miracle happens Syukur Alhamdulillah, but really do you bear to see him in the condition he is in right now?

I know it's not easy to accept a death of a loved one and one would desperately grab on to any glimmer of hope...

Btw what is his diagnosis, if you don't mind sharing...

Salam

Assalamualaikum..

from my point of view, even if we pull the plug...the life of the patient lies on takdir.. what i meant was.. if its his/ her time to go, then we cant do anything to help him/ her... who knows, the patient might even survive without the life saving machine...coz the machine (even though it really help saving lives) is still a machine.. and Allah SWT is The Greatest and The Knower of All..
