Well Maya, i suppose you are a student with high ambitions and goals.
There are a lot of ways to motivate yourself to study.
Friends are a major factor as they are the people that you constantly hang out with. It is important to chose friends which lead you to success. I am not telling you to be bias or anything, but friends have a major impact in our lives.
Our family also play a major role in motivating us. Parents should be telling thier sons/daughters to be studying and also to set a good example for them. For instance, when they are studying, parents should not distract them by watching television or by asking them to help out with thier daily chores. A good parent will sit beside thier children when they(children) are studying.
Also your study area should be free of distractions such as handphones and mp3 players.
Motivate yourself by taking successful people as your role model. Tell yourself that you want to achieve high grades. Like the saying, Suffer first, enjoy later.

If you take it that Islam wants you to be a learned person so that you can help others, that should push to learn even more... from cradle to grave.

Take responsibility for your actions and realise that your success in life depends on you and you alone, you must shape your enviroment, wheter it being turning the tv of or saying to your friend, "im studying sorry i cant come out". You must be focused; listen to that voice inside you that is always there saying "study"! as this is voice is actually you. I often find that its good to reward myself when ive just studyied for a couple of hours, as not only do i feel happy about myself for studying i also feel that i deserve that reward thus ensuring that that motivation keeps on going.
Once you start you just wont stop ;)

Salam!

I think we've all been there before. hehe! Yes, I don't deny there were times when I was super de-motivated to do anything for that matter.

My main motivator was my friends *who were the studious-type* and my mother. Although I'm told many times to do it for myself, I had my mother in my mind each time I feel lazy. It was easy for me, because she doesn't have anyone to depend on, except for her children, so I made sure I do well in my studies, and any area I'm thrown into.

As a young one, ask yourself, what is your end goal in mind? :) do we want to be a waste to the community? definitely not. ;) Always start with the end in mind, and work towards getting it.

It may be difficult when life is all just study and no play. As the hadith goes,

-------------------------------------------------
On the authority of Abu 'Amr, though others call him Abu 'Amrah Sufyan bin 'Abdullah, radiyallahu anhu, who said:

I said: "O Messenger of Allah, tell me something about Islam which I could not ask anyone about save you." He answered: "Say: 'I believe in Allah', and then stand firm and steadfast."

[Muslim]
-------------------------------------------------

istiqamah (steadfast) is the keyword. yes, it applies mostly to ibadah (worship) and faith, but it can be applied to studies as well, in my humble opinion.

there's a malay idiom that says, "sikit sedikit lama-lama jadi bukit" - bit by bit, but in time it will become a hill.

let the efforts be continuous and collective. last minute work / studying never helps hence, it's important to have a method of studying, so it won't be too taxing on you. ;)
