Hi PaulBaul,

I went to lasalle- Sia about 10 years ago.
during that time we din't have any interview or folio review.
I had a fair share of folio review after while undertaking my degree. (im assuming you are undertaking a design course?? )

What i can generally say for newbies like yourself is the ability to show creativity, skills and your interest how serious you are. Show them where your passion lies. your folio at this stage should show possibly any creative work that you did before, possbily a colauge collection of the things which you love and are looking into. Design isn't about how well you draw, unless you wanna be an artist ;) Read heaps..and think out of the square. also computer skills..very important in this day and age.

Design or Arts is not and easy thing to take up. There is never a right or a wrong answer, its fairly fluid and almost justifiable with any point of view. That's why it cover all espect of life, culture society etc..

Most importantly is theoretical understanding. I'm not sure how Lasalle is running now, but in my experience, not only do you have to be innovative, but you have to be able to show that you can think out of the box.

ps: you can try calling the school and have a chat with one of the tutors. I reckon that's a fantastic idea.

i applied for july intake 2007, and i'm accepted already. well, its gonna be a group interview. 5 - 6 people with 2 lecturers. they will ask you to place your portfolios on the table and then ask you guys to sit together and discuss 'design is all around us' while they looking at your portfolios. after that they'll come and join in the discussion and ask you guys questions individually. they will ask you to select your best piece from your portfolio and talk about it just discribe the process of it and all that. they also asked me 'who is your fav artist or designer?'. thats it.

as for materials, anything you want. anything you can think of. really.
