Q. Choice of Islamic books in Singapore

I can"t help noticing that there are limited english books in many english islamic store.I find this as an disadvantage, as Islam is one of the three religion that has the large adherents of faith in Singapore besides Christianity and Busshism.

I wonder if any of the islamic bookshops in singapore (e.g. Wardah Bookstore, Muslimedia publishr, or english islamic bookshop at onan road, offers the customers the serivce for ordering of books not sold in their in the bookshop but found overseas ? Ordering from the net is not cheap (the shipping costs esp), plus the delay in processing and time is not pleasent :(

Any opinions from anyone ?

Hi shad4man,

thanks.actuali went there last tuesday. Although there are only two three shelves for islamic books (2 for English and 1 for malay), the book qualities are suprisingly good (since maybe the 4th level store is recently opened).

Bought the book called the Quranic Science (Ulum Al Quran) by Taqi Usmani. Quite a good book.

Just wish there were a good bookstore selling English islamic books. <sigh>. Or maybe probably not many people read english islamic books, so the demand is low :(

Since you guys are here and know where to buy online. Why not team up and order in bulk one shot?

That would save the shipping costs.

Maybe we can take turns to write a review and post it on NBL.

True. In our times, most importantly there is a need for books/information for religious trends and issues, views in Singapore. I believe inter-religious disciplinary and cultural interaction within religious community is a good start.

How can we do da'wa when we have no idea of our country's religious background, historical and progress? Especially on NLB, that's basic key to discuss, if we want to hear more voices from the minority. I am currently reading a book "Religious Diversity in Singapore" by ISEAS, authored by Mr Lai Ah Eng (borrowed by NLB). It is a good book that summarize and discussed on the issues and info on all the religions in Singapore, including Islam. Though not all are 100% accurate, it gives a glance on social, cultural issues that impact on each major religion and the future implications.

Sorry, there's an error in my post "..Especially on NLB, thats a basic key..."

It's suppose to be NB lounge, not NLB. All apologies and the fault is mine.Salaam

Salaam everyone. (:

Surprisingly the book titles that you guys were asking for can be found at muslimedia.com. Why not try going to their website at www.muslimedia.com.sg?

And even if they don't currently sell any of the titles that you're looking for, you can always email to them so that they can try and find out for you. if possible, you can give them the titles of the books as well as the name of the publishers

And of course, the shipment is not going to take only a few weeks' time, especially if you've requested for books from USA or UK or Riyadh. let's face it, they too have to make bulk orders or they will have to sell us the books at a ridiculously expensive price.

So yeah, It's just an opinion worth trying out.. (:

Salaam.

Although not specialised in Muslim books, you guys can also try out OpenTrolley Bookstore, a Singapore version of Amazon. http://opentrolley.com.sg
