Q. Is there any bookstore selling 2nd hand islamic books?

Salaam,

I remembered visiting a booth during islamic book fair at Wisma Indah some time ago. I remembered this shop selling second hand books.

Could anyone remember where and if, there is any shop or online bookstore selling 2nd hand islamic books? Any recommendations? Would be happy as I am looking for some Islamic books but quite expensive for new books?

Salam,

Hmm, I guess there is little choice for responses for this post. I applied to VPOST to make my orders cheap from US/UK cheaper. I ordered the New Encyclopedia of Islam by Cyril Glasse 3rd Edition (June 2008 release). I can't believe that the main publisher (Routeledge) won't let me order through then, as they replied they do not have rights to sell this book in Singapore. But when I order through Amazon, the sales went perfectly fine. Hmm...'smells fishy'...

I also tried a few websites regarding the 2nd hand issue but little responses. I mean..hey, are not Muslims the iqra(Reading) community? THE reading community???sigh...

Saleem ahxuan,

Thanks for the advise. I bought some books before from its sister website actually; (www.onlineislamicstore.com) . I bought a few books, which some of them are not sold in Singapore, such as Jay R Crook (Md Nur) 's "The Old Testament: Islamic perspective" and "The New Testament: Islamic perspective". Though I do not agree on all his perpective such as the 'parable' story of Adam, he pointed out quite an extensive comparision, in fact more scholarly, between Islamic history/tradition to those of Christians.

Btw, have a good Ramadhan mubarak.

By the way, I recommend trying out VPOST (USA) or VPOST(UK) to buy products overseas that do NOT allow shipping to Singapore.

I bought the "The New Concise Encyclopedia of Islam" by Cyril Glasse (2008 edition) from Amazon and shipped through VPOST(USA). Apparently, the publisher claimed they do not have rights to ship to Singapore, but fortunately VPOST resolve the issue. I paid to VPOST $30++ i which is quite reasonable as the book is hardcover (hence heavier).
