Muslim Organization celebrates Vesak Day!
well basically some concern surrounds the recent Vesak day celebration after a newspaper article. (look at question posted)
Question:
Muslim Organization (Jamiyah Singapore) support and join hand to celebrate a Kafir(non-muslim) festival in Singapore.
Is this what Muslim organization do in order to show that Islam tolerate other religion?
hmm.. this is hot. but through my opinion, i think this can be accepted. but they cannot join in in the religious ceremonies conducted there. as islam is one of the minorities in s'pore ,we have to go. or not, islam is considered a non-society religion in s'pore.
supporting is one thing... endorsing it is another. If you look at some of the muslim organisations, they ahve received donations in money or kind from non muslim organization. This is to promote harmony. We cannot mix this 2 up.
Mehboob has a point. Currently the muslim students in my school (a poly in singapore) are given bursary by the buddhist associations in Singapore.
$1000 dollars each. That's like WOAHH!! haha.
and like i said its only given to Muslim students!
Even mendaki won't give me money for school !! Just because my IC says arab. Not saying anything against mendaki since they did give me a study loan.
STILL .
$1000 ! that's one semester's school fees which I am STRUGGLING to pay.
I see nothing wrong in the involvement in such
'celebrations'. It's only a different story if the muslims there eg. the Jamiyah personnel attending those celebrations join in in chanting Bhuddist prayers/chants etc. Things are controversial only when we make them controversial.
I agree with rabbit's opinion. Afterall, if we dont even show up in those nonmuslim celebrations, HOW ELSE can we show that we're tolerant of other races? There are other ways but very few.
Regarding donations/bursaries etc given by nonmuslim organisations to muslim organisations, SERIOUSLY, our muslim donations drives wont survive much without donations from nonmuslim organisations/individuals, because often it's those nonmuslims fella that give more money than the muslim donors do(including very affluent muslims). I know because i used to work in lines invoiving donations etc (read:there ARE things they dont want the (muslim) public to know).
Regarding bursaries...well..if Mendaki doesnt give u because u're a muslim but NOT MALAY, but another organisation wants to give you REGARDLESS OF RACE OR RELIGION, wic wud u choose?
Anyone not happy abt their bursary that they're receiving, feel free to drop me a msg. I'm not schooling anymore but i have my younger cousins who still are...

At an event on Sunday, it was announced that $630,000 had been raised for the S. Rajaratnam - School of International Studies Endowment Fund. It will be matched dollar for dollar by the government.
And for the first time this year, a golden statue of Buddha was also brought from the Singapore Buddhist Lodge premises at River Valley Road on a wooden chariot.
Celebrations will continue at the Serangoon Road site till Thursday when the event will culminate with the presentation of scholarships for needy students followed by a candle light procession. - CNA/de

Assalamu Alaikum. Mualaikumsalam.
Brother, I find nothing wrong in showing support for other religions in Singapore during their festival celebration. Yes, it is a good and great sign that Islam in Singapore is more open to accommodate other religion belief peacefully in order to achieve better understanding amongst mankind regardless of their ethnic or religion.
I fully support that change, concept and idea.
Wassalam.

Wa Alaikum Salam,
Islam is pure and it can't accept Kufr.
If we are Muslims we can tolerate the kuffar but not support them.
So tomorrow, if they build a temple, will Muslims support them to build one financially?
Where are our limits?
Yes, we are living multi- religious community, there are many ways to live peacefully with Non-Muslims, it is not be done by supporting them this way.
Wassalam
