Q. FUNDSRAISING IN MOSQUE

I've been with the mosque for more than 15years.
Since Spore mosque have to find their own funds to survive, they have been organising events after events of fundrasing. Since Spore is a small island and the muslim are the minority, we are targetting the same community for funds. is there any other ways you guyz can recommend to have fundsraising beside briyani amal, ayam amal and so many other food amal? give us new ideas how can mosque find their income besides selling all the food amal?

I have one suggestion. Its quite simple in theory but may need fine tuning. Why not start a 'service unit centre' to collect data of people wanting to sell or buy big ticket items such as properties or cars, etc. At the same time get one or two agents/sellers willing to contribute part of the commissions as donations to the mosque. All the agents/sellers that you have chosen must be willing to donate a certain percentage of their income from the sale to the mosque. So, in effect this 'service unit' help to get customers for the commercial parties and in return will get part of the commission in the form of donations. I've never seen this at any mosque here.

I must say this is one of my very best pick in terms of good questions on this website. Nice idea bmtalib. It's not hard to do that. Just need to build a website and i can give some recomendation with tht inshallah. :)

As you guys know, this website is created to help, support and contribute to the Muslim community in such a way that makes a difference and impact our environment.

I have been thinking of a few different ideas which will promote this. In reality i discovered that it's not just certain mosque which are having fund raising dilemmas, but it's every organisation who are facing this. I wish i can help everyone at once, but me alone doing it will not be very effective. After all the intention is for the whole community to come together and work together in the developing and self- expression of the community.

A note about fund raising is to remember it's about giving to the whole community and creativity. The Briyani amal is a classic method of fund raising, but in the long run, (in my opinion) it doesn't contribute much to everyone who comes, except for eating good briyani. A fund raiser should be a community event. make it fun for everyone.

I would like to do an exhibition of Muslim talents and to create the exhibition in light of being comfortable and proud of being a Muslim. " celebrating being muslim" This exhibition also allows Muslims and non- muslim to gain information about islam and Muslim in a creative expression which is fresh and easy to relate to. Many people ( Muslims and non- muslim ) i've talked to have been quite excited with the idea.

The Singapore community are annoyingly deprived form getting the right information about Muslims form the media. This will create the perfect platform for a wider awareness about us. Even for Muslims themselves.

Muslim talents can range to artist, painters, musician, theatre, engineers, architecture,..etc. Their work should reflect on what Muslims in Sinagpore are about. We can also insert the above idea as well in this exhibition. There can be fine tuning to this. but i'm totally inspired with the arts and the theatre side of this idea.

I have already begun to looking out for organisation (Islamic, performers, professionals, painters , artist, students etc) with whom i can share this idea with and create this mind-blowing possibility. I would like to invite bmtalib, ummi and all members of NB lounge to explore this possibilities with me. This event will not be your normal 'ceramah' ( lecture series) kinda stuff.

Together we can make a difference in our environment,Inshallah.

Please drop me a line if you have more comments about my idea. Our contact form is right below our web page. Thanks.

W'salaam

I believe all mosque have some extra fund for investment, why not all the mosque co-operate by pooling their saving engage a professional management and set up a subsidiary company. Example they can tender a shop to operate coffeeshop and employ needy family to runs the business, pay them by commission base. Sponsor them cooking classes organise by Jamiyah business school.

Don't forget in order to compete with the big market ensure that the food price is much cheaper that what is charge by the current food court or coffeeshop price.

If banquet can flourish why not us, as our prophet rasuluallah say 90% of rezki comes from business.

I have books that could be sold to raise funds. When I approach the mosque, they are not keen. The book has already been cleared by Muis. This is just one example, I have speakers who are willing to talk for free, we just cannot get a venue to talk... This is another challenge. Msoques are comfortable doing what they used to do and are not willing to step out of their comfort zone to find out what the Muslims need and cater for those needs. We in faithhub try to reach out to mosques but they are too conservative and are not willing to move with the times. Sometimes I feel that superficially they want to help but deeply they want to make money!! Everything is based on your intentions and Insya'Allah with the right intentions and actions consistent with these actions will yield results for all. I ask for forgiveness if I sound rude, but I am talking from experience. I have been tlaking to mosques for the past 1 year with very little results... I am not giving up and will keep trying. Allah knows best.
