Where do the roots of the mutual competition and slight dislike that Malaysians and Singaporeans have for each other arise?
why do Singaporeans look at Malaysia as a backward country?
and Malaysians look at Singapore as a lost part of Malaysia and possibly consider the local Singaporeans as weak to have allowed things to get to the state they are in today.
there are other things.. but these two stand out in my mind.
We neighbors were after all ONE to start with.
in the quran it is said that to have power, you need to divide and rule. If we are united, then there is no real power in either one. Hence the actions.

In my opinion, i think that these issues arise because of the difference in the way of life between the two countries.
Possibly because of the good infrastructure that Singapore has and it is absent in Malaysia , or maybe Malaysia has resources which Singapore doesn't have.
Since Singapore and Malaysia are countries, there are competition exists between these two nations in many things.
One good example is the Port issue.
Malaysia has one port in Johor which is Tanjong Pelepas , near to the border with Singapore. Singapore has a port too, at Keppel / Telok Belangah .
The advantages which Malaysia has is the low cost to dock the ship there... but comes to technology, Singapore is better..
Both countries want to excel in both, but i think it is not possible as other factors might be affected by this.
We might possibly look at Malaysia as a backward country due to the lower technology , efficiency as compared to Singapore.
However, over the years, Malaysia is improving in all sectors...
I just hope that these 2 countries could just work with each other in the things that will benefit both.
