Hello there.
I'm interested in what are the problems that the Malay or Muslim community is facing now.Certain issues that are rising and worry you guys.
I'm looking into youth-related issues however all or other issues are invited.
Thank you very much guys. I hope the nasibriyani community can voice out.
As Salam To You,
Frankly, my main concern right now is ways to brought up our future generations. As you might know and be aware of, we've heard and seen a lot of incidents, cases, stories of youths with "short gun marriages", youths mixing with the wrong type of friends and turn out to be someone who'll give a bad example to the Muslim Malay Community here in Singapore. I'm sure you've seen a lot of of our teenage girls dressed up so revealingly, teenage boys with tatoo, smoked, went clubbing... That sort of thing... Seriously I've kids of my own... And yet sometimes I still am thinking, figuring out how to create a better way in educating my child to be someone useful to the society one day. =)

Assalamualaikum,
May everyone be at peace. This question requires some readings on Muslims in Singapore first. Do take some time to read some background sources for Muslim development such as "Religious diversity in Singapore" published by ISEAS. Also an upcoming book by NLB, "Muslims in Singapore : piety, politics and policies" is a good start.
Well...for your question, and a personal opinion may be challenges of Islamic identity in Singapore. Though Malay Muslims constitute the most integrated and virtually unchanged percentage as the majority of Muslims in Singapore, the rise of inter-marriages, converts and non-Malay muslims have brought differing views and practices and approach of Islamic culture.Certainly,< in probably decades>, the tides will change..only Allah s.w.t knows best.
As how we could address this issue, I feel I am not in the best position. Also, the influence of media, the "terrorism"', the "fundamentalist vs moderatist" propaganda, "hijab", "unprogressive" are affecting Muslims inter-faith discussion and openess for Muslims to talk on this subject. Not that we do want to answer; sometimes Muslims are not sure who/what are people who they can trust to convey Islam without misquotation and misinterpretation.
Singaporean Muslims, at most, very fortunate that such challenges are supported positively by our media and govt to help assist in bringing Islam to a good light. However, Muslims should do more, meaning speaking up on their own and helping clearing the misconception and exaggeration and contribution to peace. Forums and blogs may have helped this possible, but sincerely the opposite side [the negative media] was more overwhelming. ..<sigh> I am positive the newer generation of Muslims could bring the Muslim future forward, but to where, only Allah knows best..<wallahualam>
Salams to you,
I am indian muslim. I am very concerned about how muslims potray themselves. I have to admit that i am very ashamed of how malays behave in public. Having babies and smoking in front of the babies. Not sparing a thought for themselves or the kids. In my estate, i seldom see a malay guy or a girl without tatoos. I am very disgusted by their behaviour. Sometimes i wish the muslim law in Singapore can put a stop to all the atrocities of Singapore muslims.
Wasalam.
Thank you very much brothers and sisters for your replies. Very much grateful for this site and your replies.
Just to share. I think the greatest challenge we have today is not educate the public about what Islam is but rather fellow muslims who are jahil to the teachings of islam. The religion should be represented by its believers just like how a school is represented by its students.
