Yesterday I went to the halal certified, Manhattan Fish market restaurant(located in Marina Squara), which I enjoyed the platter serving the rest of the evening.
But yet, one single observation intrigues my mind; the dressing of the waitresses in the places (in simple comment, baring skin from the knee up to the thighs :( ) . By their form of dressing, a practicing Muslim finds it "less accommodating" for a (ironically) halal centered restaurant. Do I find it "fishy" for a halal fish restaurant, or is it just me? (No offense on the restaurant though, as I think they are not well aware of it)
it's a secular nation brother. as your question puts it, "halal food". MUIS certifies the food as halal. The waitresses' dressings are within the business model of the restaurant concerned and muslim bodies may not be in the jurisdiction to intervene.
Such an image may not permissible in countries where Islam is the official religion. So "defining" halal food, sadly, varies within nations. I believe what you experienced may also be experienced in countries with far more Muslims than us but Islam is not the official religion. places like USA, France, UK, Spain etc.
The matter of Halal in these countries and ours is for assurance at the quality of food and only food. The onus is on us from there on. I believe some people will avoid. The best we can do. Wallahu'alam bissawab.
salam,
we dont impose our religious practice on others who are not. Pls bear in mind, brothers and sisters in islam, " there is no compulsion in religion." Islam is dynamic and vibrant, dont trap urselves in thinking that we need to impose our beliefs on others that make us good muslims.
Salam Fariz,
I really agree with ahxuan and hidayat
You must understand that those people who worked at these places do not know much about the religious background ( only halal food i suggest ) .
Thus they feel that it is nothing wrong with their attire of exposing parts of their body as they feel that it is need not to cover up. Sad...
But what i heard , i think their dress code should be like that also ( which is partially revealing )..
you can say it is like ironic , but i think that is their business strategy...
