if possible, eat local.
avoid the temptations to eat mcdonalds and those familiar fastfood chains. theyre everywhere!!!)

oh yeah. comfy shoes. that's a must.
a good backpacking buddy (someone who doesnt snore preferably)

understand where you're going, the political climate, safety issues etc.

and yeah. be safe.

that's a good Question. actually i'm hoping to backpack. i'm slowly researching on the how to's of backpacking, but i don't have enough info for you at the moment.
