hey everyone,
does anyone know where in the world i can buy a long-sleeved evening dress for a wedding dinner? i thought of buying instead of renting since the cost will be the same and i might just have a use for it in future (e.g. D&D, formal functions, etc).
Most rental outfit are for wedding use.
How about getting it customised.? Then you can choose your own design.

Yea, it was the same problem for me..
1) try indian custumes esp the lehenga or some call it ghagra choli.. they are really pretty for evening wear. It's a short blouse with a skirt with either little or heavy embrodery work.
here are some website which has really beauiful indian dresses which you can buy online. They are expensive especially the ones for bridal. If you are buying these online you can request for long sleeves. You can also go for the mordern version of salwa khameez or an indo western design.

2) go to serangoon road. Find a boutique indian fashion shops and find something similar to what you see on these website. better to print out and show the sales assistant. Find for good material ones, like silk or georgette..nice soft fabrics. Ask them if they can do it longsleeves. They will normally have an inhouse tailor who can do alterations for you and add in sleeves. alternatively, you can ask z's wife if she does alteration. This is what i did for my wedding. I saw a beautiful white lehengga online, cost abt $1000 USD. So i went to indian shop ( in australia since i live here) to see if i can find something similar. I ended up getting a black bronzy dress which was almost like the design i wanted. cost me abt $100+.
3) find a dress you like online and get it tailored. alternatively you can design something of your own and get it tailored. By a really georgious material from JB.This is what i did for a few of my dresses and blouse. I love designing my own clothes. A word of caution though, you need to get a good tailor. hehe.. i learned it the hard way. Can ask z's wife if she can tailor them.
Good luck.
i wear this for my normal sleeveless or short sleeve top/dress.
They are awsome to wear with normal fashion clothing which you find in department stores. They look great with formal or casual clothings.
This is available in australia but you can purchase them online.

they have just the sleeves or with bodice. if you wear the hijab you can choose the one with UH half ( so that you can change the cap colour) or UH 1 whole piece. The fabric is lightweight.. If no hijab the sleeves are great!
I wish i knew abt these during my wedding, saves me the trouble. :)
hi sultana,
gosh thanks so much for your replies :) i'm gonna try to scout around to look for fabrics and tailors soon..hee..
This might be too late.. but it might benefit other brides. I designed my gown and sent it to Ova boutique at Arab St. It will be ready in 2 weeks! Inshallah
