1. Most companies in sgp do not provide prayer room. If there is a prayer room in some company, it is thru the request & efforts of some employee to make available a makeshift prayer room from converted store room, staircase deck etc. with the management's permission. Different companies have different policy on Friday prayer.. pls check out with the union representative in your company & HR personal.

2. In the first place, Singaporean & Permanent
Residence are not allowed to drive Msia plate car in Sgp. Work permit holder are allowed to drive Msia plate car but with a monthly valid pass. I'm not sure how much is the fees now.. many years back it was like abt $800 per mth. Pls check out with the LTA.

Salaam I've got an answer from MUIS the Islamic religious body in Singapore. I'm posting it here for everyone to see.
------------------------------------------------
Dear amilyssa

Permission to go out for Friday prayer is upon agreement between workers and their employers. Thus, tolerance is highly demanded in this situation so as to create the understanding and mutual respect between faiths.

As Friday prayers falls during our lunchtime period. It is recommended that we cut down our lunch time and use that time for our prayer.

Friday prayer cannot substitute with Zohor prayer unless its really in difficulties after we had try our best to perform it.

May this answer assists you.

Wallahu a'lam

I checked with the Ministry of manpower known as MOM abt this.

The Ministry is against any form of discrimination in employment. "We are of the view that selection of candidates for jobs and the assessment of suitability for continued employment should be based on one's performance and contributions and not on the basis of one's age, race, gender, martial status, religion or country of residence."

There are no specific guidelines issued by the Ministry to address the issue of employees performing their prayers at the workplace. As such, the ministry of man power would advise both parties to discuss the matter amicably and to reach a common understanding of the issue at hand.

Should you require more information on the statutory benefits provided for under the Employment Act, you could visit the Ministry of Manpower's web-site at
http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/...
or call 6 4385122.

Hope tht helps.

I've worked in a Japanese company, their HR asked me to punch out and punch in if I wish to go for Friday prayers, and they will deduct my pay accordingly. I was most satisfied with that arrangement.

Maybe you can try that arrangement if your employer is hesitant in giving you the green light to go for Friday prayers, but then again, only men are supposed to go for Friday prayers anyway.
------------------------------------------------
Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat): Details of Commencing Prayer
Dawud :: Book 3 : Hadith 1062
Narrated Tariq ibn Shihab:

The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: The Friday prayer in congregation is a necessary duty for every Muslim, with four exceptions; a slave, a woman, a boy, and a sick person.
---------------------------------------------------

Besides that, before accepting a job, its best to enquire with the company what is their views on going for Friday prayers, I would not accept the job if they were unwilling to allow me to go for Friday prayers or it is extremely difficult to perform Friday prayers.

I didn't know that companies can disallow employers to go for their Friday prayer. Isn't that discrimination and you can bring that to the Ministry of Man power since they claim that there shouldn't be discrimination in the workforce.

I'm sure there's a reason for some companies to disallow employees to go for prayers.

I've known muslims who take advantage of good employers. Instead of going for prayers, they went smoking or somewhere else. This is one of the reason why employers may not allow this. But if you are sincere about praying, supplicate to Allah, HE will guide you.

It also depends on which industry you worked in, those jobs that time is considered critical (eg. doctors, banks..), they may not allow you to go for prayers too. In all you've to plan your time.

I remembered I had to sit praying as the space was so small, I only took the obligatory wudhu and my muslim colleagues were very co operative, we took turns to pray.

In another workplace, my superior was very open about me praying, so there wasn't any problem.

If you work in schools or government service, it'll be easier for you. For private sector, still possible.
